Imaging studies of the chest including plain films continue to represent the largest number of
procedures performed in most radiology practices.
During the early resident years, emphasis is placed on mastering the “simple” chest radiograph.
With more experience, residents learn more sophisticated techniques including multislice CT for
pulmonary embolism evaluation and high resolution CT. Routine plain film and CT imaging are also
reviewed during the ambulatory patient rotation.
Didactic and interactive conferences in thoracic radiology are held 2-3 times per month.
Additional cases are also routinely discussed in cross sectional imaging conferences. Weekly
interdepartmental conferences are held with the pulmonary division of the Department of Medicine.
There is also extensive interaction with the active Thoracic and Cardiovascular
Surgery Department.
