Message from the Chairman
"Our residency-training program has earned a favorable reputation for developing well-trained
radiologists. Residents are exposed to a unique blend of institutional education, research, clinical
service, and citizenship. The strength of our program is the one on one educational interaction that
occurs between radiology faculty and the residents. Graduated supervision provides the framework
for the development of manual procedural skills and judgment. Residents and faculty have been recognized
for their outstanding presentations at both national and international meetings."

Message from the Radiology Residency Program Director
"The principal objective of our residency program is to provide four years of
well-rounded education in all phases of diagnostic imaging. At the completion of
their training, residents are optimally prepared in all radiologic specialties.
The Department prides itself on being able to offer a busy, academically
challenging residency in a supportive environment that fosters learning and
professional development. Strong emphasis is placed on the quality of the teaching,
either in daily clinical film reading sessions or in conferences. The close-knit
faculty-resident relationship produces many collaborative clinical research projects.
This personable philosophy inherent in our training program reduces much of the
stress of postgraduate medical education and optimizes learning opportunities.
Winthrop is a tertiary care medical center, and one of the major clinical campuses
for the SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine. Medical students rotate through our
Department for third-year clerkships and fourth-year electives. Our program, which
is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education,
accepts three residents per year, after a clinical year. Interested applicants can
apply to do radiology and their clinical year in medicine at Winthrop through the
Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)."
