Training Main

The Program of Radiography is a two-year, full-time day program approved by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology and the New York State Department of Health. The academic year begins in September. The program is limited to accepting 10 students per year.

Throughout the two years, students attend formal lectures and participate in clinical practice. During the first year of clinical experience students take part in a variety of general diagnostic procedures that include: chest, abdomen and skeletal examinations, gastrointestinal studies, emergency room and portable radiography. The second year of clinical includes additional rotations in the operating room, computed tomography, interventional radiology and MRI. Lectures and clinical experience take place at Winthrop-University Hospital. The program maintains a clinical affiliation with Winthrop Radiology Associates, P.C.

Upon satisfactory completion of the program, the student is awarded a certificate. Graduates are eligible for the national certifying examination given by The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. To practice in New York State, the technologist must also apply for licensure by the State of New York Department of Health.

Mission Statement

The Program is committed to graduating students with a rounded experience in radiologic imaging. It is designed to provide study and experience for entry-level technologists so they become technically proficient and knowledgeable professionals. Graduates are expected to take pride in good patient care and in producing proper radiographic studies that demonstrate radiation protection with accurate technique and positioning.

Non-Discriminatory Statement

Student recruitment and acceptance policies are non-discriminatory with respect to race, color, creed, sex, age, national origin, marital status or disability. Pregnancy does not exclude an individual from admission. However, the student must be able to perform the specific tasks and duties inherent in the performance of Radiologic Technology.
