American College of Radiology (ACR)
Dr. Douglas Katz, Vice Chair, Department of Radiology, was awarded the title of Fellow of American College of Radiology (FACR) at the 2008 ACR annual meeting.
Dr. Elizabeth Y. Yung, Director of Nuclear Medicine, continues to serve as the Chair of the Committee on Accreditation for Nuclear Medicine, at the American College of Radiology (ACR). Dr. Yung will be honored for her years of service to the ACR with the title of Fellow of the American College of Radiology (FACR) at the 2009 annual meeting.
American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS)
Dr. Joseph P. Mazzie presented 5 electronic educational exhibits at the 2009 American Roentgen Ray Society, Boston, MA, May 2009, one of which (on MRI-physical examination correlation for the shoulder) was featured as a CME exhibit. And was explained by Dr. Mazzie as a brief “hot topics” oral presentation.
Residents Drs. Penny Saxon and Bryan Lazzara presented electronic educational exhibits at the 2009 American Roentgen Ray Society annual meeting in Boston, MA.
American Spine Society (ASSR) and American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR)
A. Orlando Ortiz, MD, MBA, and Chair of the Department of Radiology, co-authored a variety of abstracts and mentored several residents and medical students in projects which have been presented in the past year at national meetings including the American Society of Neuroradiology (ASNR) and the American Society of Spine Radiology (ASSR). He again participated as a judge in the mentor program which he established at the ASSR several years ago.
Association of University Radiologists
Dr. Douglas Katz lectured to junior radiology faculty around the county at the development seminar of the Association of University Radiologists annual meeting in May 2009.
Dr. Anoop Wattamwar, Chief Resident, presented multiple exhibits at the 2009 annual meeting of the Association of University Radiologists.
Long Island Radiological Society
Dr. Jonathan Luchs has been very active with the Winthrop radiology residency, as well as in organizations including the Long Island Radiological Society. Dr. Luchs is serving as President for the 2009-2010 academic year. Drs. Elizabeth Yung and Douglas Katz, both past Presidents, continue to serve the society in an active role on the Executive Committee; and Dr. Rakesh Shah, attending radiologist, also serves in this capacity, as does Dr. Orlando Ortiz.
New York Roentgen Society
Dr. Jonathan Luchs presented a talk on imaging of sports-related injuries at the December 2008 monthly meeting.
Radiological Society of North America (RSNA)
Dr. Man Hon, Vice Chair, Department of Radiology, co-authored several abstracts over the past year which were presented at national radiology meetings including the RSNA and the Society of Interventional Radiology.
Dr. Joseph Mazzie was a awarded a Certificate of Merit for an electronic presentation on MRI-knee physical examination correlation, at the 2008 annual meeting of the Radiology Society of North America.
Dr. Orlando Ortiz directed three refresher courses/workshops at the Radiological Society of North America’s annual meeting (RSNA), on interventional neuroradiology/spine procedures.
Dr. Jonathan Luchs was also appointed Adjunct Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy at Hunter College, and was also awarded at Certificate of Merit at the 2008 annual meeting of the RSNA, for a poster on risk prevention in radiology.
Resident Dr. Katherine Walczyk presented an exhibit at the 2008 RSNA annual meeting.
Society of Interventional Radiology
Resident Dr. Nicholas Georgiou presented an exhibit at the 2009 Society of Interventional Radiology annual meeting in San Diego, CA.
Society for Pediatric Radiology
Dr. Dan Barlev, Director of Pediatric Radiology, co-authored multiple abstracts presented at national radiology meetings including the Society of Pediatric Radiology, the RSNA, and the American Roentgen Ray Society.
Society of Skeletal Radiology
Dr. Jonathan Luchs recently moderated a scientific session and participated in the executive committee.
