We offer state of the art musculoskeletal imaging including digital radiography, digital arthrography, multidetector CT scanner, Short Bore open high field strength MRI and high resolution dynamic ultrasound and ultrasound guided injections. Our fellowship trained musculoskeletal radiologists are on site and read and perform the musculoskeletal procedures.
Musculoskeletal radiology is no longer plain x-rays and fluoroscopy, today it involves the understanding of multidetector CT technology and in-depth MRI physics to optimize the examination to the particular patient’s needs. Our radiologists are trained in such and optimizing MRI’s of the musculoskeletal system from the finger to the toe, with indwelling hardware in the field of view and high spatial resolution imaging obviating the need for arthrography. That is not say we do not perform MR Arthrography, we do; as requested.
If there is a study that you need but is not on this list please feel free to call and ask.
We can usually accommodate almost every patient that same day.
MSK Ultrasound
Musculoskeletal ultrasound is now part of our mainstream imaging, however most centers do not MSK ultrasound trained radiologist. Our musculoskeletal radiologists are trained in MSK ultrasound and perform a multitude of diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound guided procedure. MSK ultrasound allows patients with a contraindication to MRI or severe claustrophobia to have a test to evaluate for soft tissue injury or pathology. This study also allows for dynamic real time imaging. This is important when trying to evaluate for iliopsoas snapping syndrome, intermittent ulnar nerve subluxation, etc. Plus ultrasound is a great tool guide a needle into a joint or adjacent to an inflamed focus of soft tissue (i.e. Tendinitis, bursitis, etc.). We perform numerous ultrasound guided therapeutic steroid injections such as plantar fascia, iliopsoas tendon, biceps tendon, shoulder joint, hip joint, Morton’s neuroma, etc. For more information regarding MSK ultrasound or ultrasound guided injection please feel free to call.
MSK MRI
“Not all MRI’s of the musculoskeletal system are created equal”. Please do not be fooled by the large field of view low spatial resolution factory software MRI’s that are out there. We at WRA perform MSK MRI’s that are specifically tailored to the need of that patient. Our MSK trained radiologists protocol each case as needed and will changed the physics parameters of the machine to optimize spatial resolution and exam quality. We pride ourselves as seeing (on MRI) what most of our neighbors can not.
MSK CT
Computerized tomography of the musculoskeletal system is more than just lying down and getting a CT scan. Our radiologist tailor the x-ray dose and penetration ability to the specific patient’s needs. Our radiologist also personally reconstruct each MSK CT scan to 3D images on a separate workstation to allow for complete and thorough analysis of the region in question. We also perform CT Arthrography for patient who can not have MRI’s. CT Arthrograms allow for analysis of intra-articular structure integrity that can not be determine on a noncontrast CT but would be visible on MRI or CT Arthrogram.
Digital Arthrography
Digital Arthrography is performed with a digital fluoroscopy x-ray room. We use this to perform not only diagnostic arthrograms but to help guide needles for therapeutic steroid and anesthetic joint injections. Diagnostic fluoroscopic arthrography is a dieing art. However, our radiologists are trained in diagnostic arthrography and post arthrogram cross sectional imaging techniques (CT and MRI).
Cine Radiography
Cine radiography is a technique that allow the musculoskeletal radiologist to analyze and assess the mechanical and structure integrity of joints. This is performed when there is a question of intermittent bony dislocation or subluxation. This information is captured as a cine loop of information and played back for review with the referring orthopedic surgeon.
