Douglas S. Katz, MD FACR

Douglas S. Katz, M.D., F.A.C.R., has been the Director of Body Imaging and Vice Chair for Clinical Research and Education at Winthrop-University Hospital, Mineola, Long Island, New York, since 1999, and has been a Professor of Clinical Radiology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook’s School of Medicine since 2003. He has co-authored 613 publications + abstracts, as well as two books, was attending of the year five times at his institution (three times in radiology, most recently in 2010, and twice in internal medicine), and is Past President of the Long Island Radiological Society. In 2012, he was named as Distinguished Alumnus of the Year of Stony Brook’s School of Medicine.

Dr. Katz has co-authored 43 award-winning exhibits/posters, was a co-winner of the "Diagnosis Please" contest at the journal Radiology, was the case-of-the-day Summa Cum Laude award winner at the 2008 and 2009 annual meetings of the American Society of Emergency Radiology, and was the second place winner in 2010. Dr. Katz was the 1999 Radiological Society of North America’s (RSNA) Editorial Fellow, has been on the Editorial Board of both Radiology and the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR), and from 2003-2007 was one of three Deputy Editors of Radiology, the leading international journal of the specialty. His growing reviewing and editing responsibilities for imaging journals include Consultant to the Editor/Conflict of Interest Deputy Editor at Radiology since 2008. He has been a distinguished reviewer for the AJR for the past several years, and he has been the top reviewer in volume for the AJR from 2007 to the present (excluding the paid statisticians). In 2012, Dr. Katz was named for a second time to the editorial board of the AJR, as Assistant Consulting Editor for CME (non-interpretive skills), and then later in 2012 he was renamed to the editorial board of the AJR as Assistant Editor for Pediatric Radiology. He was also named as the section editor for emergency radiology for the American College of Radiology’s Continuous Professional Improvement (CPI) special modules in 2012.

Dr. Katz has lectured widely since fellowship, with 128 regional and national lectures on a variety of imaging-related topics, and is heavily involved in multiple local, regional, national, and international radiology organizations, where he has held several leadership roles, in particular in the Radiological Society of North America, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the American Society of Emergency Radiology. He is also heavily involved in radiology and general resident/medical education at his institution, and is serving on the APT committee for Stony Brook’s School of Medicine, as well as a judge for the past several years at Winthrop’s institution-wide trainee research day. He has also won several awards as a co-author and mentor for original research presentations and posters, as well as for educational exhibits, which were presented at Winthrop’s research day. Recent non-medical awards include several medals for regional wine-making (in the state of New Jersey, but thankfully using California grapes).
