Douglas S. Katz, MD FACR

Douglas S. Katz, M.D., F.A.C.R., has been the Director of Body Imaging and Vice Chair for Clinical Research and Education at Winthrop-University Hospital, Mineola, Long Island, New York, since 1999, and has been a Professor of Clinical Radiology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook since 2003. He has co-authored 570 publications + abstracts, as well as two books, was Attending of the year five times at Winthrop (three times in radiology, most recently in 2010, and twice in internal medicine), and is Past President of the Long Island Radiological Society. Dr. Katz has co-authored 37 award-winning exhibits/posters, was a co-winner of the "Diagnosis Please" contest at the journal Radiology, and was the case-of-the-day Summa Cum Laude award winner at the 2008 and 2009 annual meetings of the American Society of Emergency Radiology, and was the second place winner in 2010.

Dr. Katz has twice participated in the unknown film panel of the Society of Gastrointestinal Radiologists/Society of Uroradiology. Dr. Katz was the 1999 RSNA Editorial Fellow, has been on the Editorial Board of both Radiology and the AJR, and from 2003-2007 was one of three Deputy Editors of Radiology. His growing reviewing and editing responsibilities for imaging journals include Consultant to the Editor/Conflict of Interest Deputy Editor at Radiology since 2008. He has been a distinguished reviewer for the American Journal of Roentgenology for the past four years, and he was also the top reviewer in volume for the AJR during that time period (excluding the statisticians). Dr. Katz has lectured widely since fellowship, with over 100 invited regional and national lectures on a variety of imaging-related topics, and is heavily involved in multiple local, regional, national, and international radiology organizations, where he has held several leadership roles. He is also heavily involved in radiology and general resident/medical education at his own institution, on numerous fronts, including participation in multiple regularly-scheduled interdisciplinary conferences, radiology resident conferences, and medical student teaching sessions, and he has coordinated an active hospital radiology grand rounds program for the past decade. He also serves on Stony Brook School of Medicine’s APT Committee. His most recent award was in a regional wine-making competition in the state of New Jersey.
